Una nota a margine ...

• Chiarissimo Paul Adrian Fried... molto interessante la sollecitazione a riflettere sulle parole di Ofelia a Claudio (Hamlet, IV.5): “God dild [yield] you.”; e, sul fatto che, "In Shakespeare’s time, the idea of yielding had a rich biblical connotations".
    Ricordando, tuttavia, quanto è detto all’inizio della "storia" dell’Amleto (I. 4-5: "C’è qualcosa di marcio nello stato di Danimarca"), forse, non è meglio ricollegare la risposta di Ofelia al re Claudio alla domanda (fatta poco prima) alla regina Gertrude (IV.5) e portare avanti un ulteriore approfondimento? 🙏

  Che vuoi da me, Ofelia?

"YIELD". A mio parere, qui, nelle parole di Ofelia, traspare un "doppio senso", che da tutti e da tutte è interpretato ovviamente dal lato del loro proprio "conflitto di interesse" (a difesa dell’ordine costituito e del "loro" re e della loro regina), ma che è possibile interpretare anche come consonante con lo spirito critico dello stesso promesso re, Amleto: "Where is the beauteous Majesty of Denmark?"!!!
  Il senso del "discorso" di Ofelia, forse, è ben "racchiuso" (e al contempo ben "evidenziato") nelle parole di Virginia Woolf: "The eyes of others our prisons; their thoughts our cages" ("Short Stories").
